An Idea for Struggling Professional Franchises

Do what the Peoria Chiefs of the Midwest League is doing! Got six grand, you could have a ballpark named whatever you want it to be named.

Unable to sell permanent naming rights to O'Brien Field for the time being, the Peoria Chiefs are doing the next best thing.

The Chiefs are selling "Naming Rights for a Game" to the Downtown ballpark. It is believed to be the first such promotion in Minor League Baseball.

"We've been talking about it for a couple of weeks," Chiefs president Rocky Vonachen said by phone Monday evening. "We put together a decent plan we can sell, and it's something fun and unique we can do with the naming rights."

For $6,000, businesses get signage on top of each dugout, mentions in the Chiefs radio broadcasts and over the park's public address system, a 30-second commercial on the video board, 50 tickets to that night's game and the opportunity to distribute promotional material to fans.

JMP Note: Maybe a major radio giant can hold a pay to be a DJ or talk show contest on a regular basis.....better option than laying off 2,400 employees nation-wide eh?
