ATL 49, MIA 36
-Erik Spoelstra hates the end of quarter interviews. I love the 6-word responses. Especially when he usually gave me 30-60 seconds per question this year.
That was the only thing I loved from a disastrous 2nd qtr. Atlanta has outscored Miami 74-38 in its 2 second quarter home wins. The Hawks just pummeled Miami 29-18, capped off by Joe Johnson weaving through the would-be-defense for a scoop with 2.8 seconds left.
-Wade was 0 for 6 in the second, now 4-13 for the game. And he's in pout to the officials mode. One of those instances leading to a Johnson 3. He also has 3 of the Heat's 8 second quarter turnovers.
-It took a game and a quarter, but Mike Woodson has figured out that Joel Anthony is not an NBA starter. They are double teaming Wade.
-Tracking the whereabouts of the supporting cast: Chalmers has been horrible(1-5 FG, 4 pts, 3 turnovers). Jones(1-3 FG, 0-2 3PT) is not getting touches. Daequan Cook played 3 invisible minutes. Jermaine O'Neal is probably done for the day.
-And I can't help but think that this may be Michael Beasley's(4 pts, 2 rbs) last game in a Heat uniform. People in and around the organization tell me there's some serious legs to the Beasley and others for Chris Bosh rumors. That would prompt Wade to sign an extension this year. Otherwise, it may be 50-50 he leaves.
-2nd Quarter Quote: Jeff Van Gundy, in an attempt to stir up trouble: "I can't believe that Pat Riley's coaching career would end with a 15-win season. If I'm one of these teams with a coaching vacancy, I throw 10-million dollars a year at him."
-2nd Quarter Quote No. 2: Also from JVG following a Josh Smith missed alley-oop dunk: "He should have gone between the legs." OITA!
-Wilbon and Scott are already previewing how the Hawks measure up to Cleveland. Can't say I disagree going there.
